Second Grade Visitors Share Native American History

Writer's picture: Frost SchoolFrost School

Currently, second graders are learning about Native Americans in Wit and Wisdom.  Last week, they were visited by Deputy Gene and his aunt, Sister-of-the Bear, Mrs. Retha.  Together, they shared lots of their Native American memorabilia with the two classes.  Students were able to get a better idea of what life was really like for Native Americans in the past.  Mrs. Retha and Deputy Gene allowed students to see and touch things like: a war club made from the jaw of a buffalo, a knife made from alligator, baskets made from pine-needles, bags made from the body of a fox. Mrs. Retha told stories about her tribe and other Native Americans.   Students truly enjoyed learning more about Native Americans and loved visiting with Deputy Gene and Mrs. Retha.
